Scenario: if a temporary acting opportunity is extended or renewed so that its total length is greater than six months (e.g. the incumbent did not return to the role before six months as originally anticipated) does an employer then need to advertise that role through the Jobs and Skills Exchange (JSE)?
- It may be the case that a temporary acting opportunity is extended beyond six months by:
- Agreeing to keep an individual in that role for longer than six months, or
- Filling the role, temporarily, with a different individual, prior to the return of the substantive occupant of that role.
- In these circumstances, departments/agencies should use their own judgement and consider whether advertising that position through the JSE is now appropriate.
